In my role at GCA, I plan outreach trips, meetings and events sponsored by GCA. Prior to joining GCA, I spent 25 years as an international event planner, with a specialty in destination weddings. I was ready for a change. I really wanted to use my skills and experience to do something positive for the world and I was immediately drawn to GCA by the fact that the work would entail coordinating with people from around the globe to work together to make the world a safer place. In my previous role, I learned how to plan and orchestrate minute details, people and logistics all while smiling under pressure. I worked in foreign countries where languages, currency, cultures and electricity are different. Event planning involves using both your left and right brain, so it prepares you for anything! My role at GCA is the perfect job for me post-wedding planning. I am still planning international events but in a different capacity. I also love the flexibility and independence GCA gives its employees. GCA empowers employees to own their work and accomplish it while keeping a healthy work-life balance.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
I have never been to a place I did not like for one reason or another! Some of my favorites include Lake George and the Adirondack Mountains, Guatemala, or just about anywhere in Latin America, in a boat on the Caribbean Sea, or at the Rocky Mountains. But my happy place is Harvey Mountain, where I grew up surrounded by 3,000+ acres of forest, birds and bears!
What is on your bucket list?
Whitewater rafting down the Colorado River, flying in a helicopter in the Grand Canyon, sailing the Greek Isles, riding the Orient Express from Istanbul to Paris, camping on horseback in Wyoming or Montana, going on an extended trip across the USA and around the world.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Traveling with my family, taking care of my pets, cooking, sailing, riding, gardening, arranging flowers, writing, singing and dancing.
