I am an administrative assistant at GCA and provide part-time support primarily for the Executive Director for the United Kingdom, Middle East and India. I also support the Global Partnership Officer. Interestingly, what brought me to GCA is I am in a fitness group at our local park with the Global Partnership Officer. I became aware of the job opening and submitted my resume. I think what GCA does is amazing.
I’ve worked for lots of other companies, and started my own consulting company about two years ago. While my background has been heavily in the finance industry, I have been involved in some technical-related work. My skills on the administrative side are really transferable to any industry. Everyone at GCA is so friendly and welcoming. And I really enjoy the remote work — it’s such a breath of fresh air.
What is the best meal you ever had?
A meal in Italy in Abruzzo, Italy. I had no idea what to expect. The restaurant was on stilts over the sea and we had to walk over boards to get to it. There were about ten courses and we were there for hours. It was one of the best meals I’ve had.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Vancouver Island, where I spent my honeymoon. We drove across the Rockies and Vancouver Island was one of our stops. It was so peaceful and beautiful. I like the country and peaceful animals there. We must go back!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Keeping fit. I am missing my sessions in the park with everyone during the pandemic. I also play the clarinet – I played in school about 25 years ago and started again about two years ago. I used to be quite good… now I’m not. LOL. I was surprised how quickly my ability to read music came back. I am a member of a local concert group once a week when we are not on lockdown, and I enjoy being part of the group. I’ve been taking lessons via Zoom during lockdown.
