GCA Announces Partnership with Institute for Nonprofit News

The Global Cyber Alliance is delighted to announce a partnership with the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), which supports hundreds of independent newsrooms across North America. GCA looks forward to joining INN’s office hours to address questions and engage in community discussion related to the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Journalists.

Through this partnership, GCA and INN will also co-host a webinar with case study-driven training to demonstrate usage of the GCA Cybersecurity Toolkit for Journalists. The Toolkit empowers independent journalists, watchdogs, and small newsrooms with information and tools to protect their sources and reputation. The toolkit helps fill security gaps in many common journalistic workflows. This training will provide real-world scenarios and walk participants through implementing recommendations developed by the Center for Internet Security (CIS) with tools to:

  • Keep defenses updated
  • Protect online accounts from falling into the wrong hands
  • Protect with anti-virus and DNS security
  • Create backups of vital work
  • Encrypt data
  • Secure private messaging, email, and browsing

“We’re excited to offer INN members more ways to ensure their critical and confidential information is protected, so that they and their sources can feel confident that they’re able to do their work away from prying eyes and with the least possible chance of technical intrusion,” said Jonathan Kealing, INN’s Chief Network Officer.

INN strengthens and supports more than 300 independent news organizations in a new kind of media network: nonprofit, nonpartisan, and dedicated to public service. Visit https://inn.org/ for more information.
